What Is It?

What Is It?

Five kids on a dock, looking into the water.  What do they see?  A fish, a frog, a dead fish, a log, a dead frog, a pollywog, a wet dog, part of my blog,  ground hog, bottle of grog, ( Geez, sounds like Dr. Seuss)  a toy boat, fishing tackle, seaweed or just another  lake dweller’s trash?  It could be anything.  It doesn’t take much for kids to find something to do on a dock surrounded by water.

When I was a kid, my brother and I would visit our cousins in western Nebraska.  They lived on an enormous lake and right across the road was a public swimming area with a huge dock.  We’d spend all day and evening down there, even if we weren’t swimming we would find something to do on or around the dock.  Sometimes it was just skipping rocks or throwing sticks for their retriever.  Water + kids = loads of fun.

I took this picture a couple of summers ago, and it’s still one of my favorite.  Five kids on a dock, looking into the water.  What is it?  Beats me.

Thought for the Day:  To get back my youth I would do anything in the world, except take exercise, get up early, or be respectable.  Oscar Wilde  1854-1900
