Remember the college student sit-ins? With all of the protests, riots and violent demonstrations going on around the world lately, this scene in downtown Phoenix, reminded me of college student sit-ins in the turbulent 60’s. As I recall, most of the demonstrations were to protest the Viet Nam war. Geez, what the heck were we doing over there anyway?
Political friction in the Middle East today is very similar to what it was in Southeast Asia 50 years ago; i.e. Americans fighting to stop the spread of communism. But today, the political friction is entwined with religious intolerance. There are religious fanatics that have no comprehension of religious freedom, fanning the flames of anarchy throughout the world. Why are we wasting good American boys’ lives, not to mention the $$$s in foreign aid, in places that will never tolerate our religious freedom? I just hope and pray that 50 years from now we are still a free society and can look back at today and say, “Geez, what the heck were we doing over there anyway?”
Ahhh, the good ole days.
Thought for the Day: A fanatic is one who can’t change his mind, and won’t change the subject. Winston Churchill
