Uggh, stringing Christmas lights. I remember last year at this time I had a virtual meltdown trying to untangle my outdoor Christmas lights. You may remember my blog titled “Christmas Aversions“, where I just couldn’t face another year of untangling Christmas lights and said, “to hell with it”.
This year was a lot easier, mainly because my wife took pity on me last January and stored all of the old lights for me. She must have figured the bar bill would be a lot lower this way. Last spring she made wreaths out of our pruned grape vines, wrapped them with the old Christmas lights and stored them away. What a sweetheart.
So, this year, all I had to do was pull the pre-strung wreaths down from the storage area above the garage and hang them outside. The hardest part was getting the extension cords all lined up so I could just plug/unplug one cord for the entire display to light up at once. See the dazzling display in the photo above. WOW!
I know this won’t win any neighborhood lighting contests, but it avoids the scene in National Lampoon’s “Christmas Vacation” with Clark Griswold’s tangled ball of Christmas lights. But, hey, you’ve got to start somewhere.
