This is my first attempt at giving a painterly look to one of my photos. An original photo of The Circus can be seen in an earlier blog titled, Bath Houses. A several-step process is required to get this painterly look. The first step is to knock off the sharp edges of the image with a blurring filter. Second, add some pastel overlay to distort the colors. After that, several different kinds of textures can be used to get the desired affect.
This is crazy when you think about it. I’ve work very hard to improve my photography skills: practicing technique for tack sharp focus, working on proper exposure, and learning how to correct color casts. After finally reaching a relatively high skill level (I’ve still got a long way to go), I take one of my best photos, blur the edges, contaminate the color, and try to make it look like a painting. Go figure.
I feel like I’m chasing my tail.
