Johnnie Fox’s Pub

Johnnie Fox’s Pub

Nothing says, “Happy St. Patrick’s Day” better than Johnnie Fox’s Pub in the Wicklow Mountains south of Dublin.  Definitely a destination place — you reach Johnnie’s at the top of a mountain by a steep, narrow winding road.  It’s not the kind of place you stop by after work for a quick pint.

Established in 1798, Johnnie’s is noted for many things:  1) its the highest elevation pub in Ireland, 2) President Bill Clinton made a point of stopping there, and 3) its old-world charm is unmatched–low ceilings supported by heavy, rough-hewn timbers and poor lighting.

It was one of many highlights of my visit to the Green Isle.  Happy St. Patrick’s Day!

Thought for the Day:  Here’s to a long life and a merry one.  A quick death and an easy one.  A pretty girl and an honest one.  A cold pint and another one!     Irish Toast
