I was at Lauritzen Gardens the other day, checking out the new Conservatory when I felt a cold mist on the back of my neck. The misters in the Four Seasons area of the Conservatory had just started, trying to simulate winter in the southeast part of the country. Think Augusta, Georgia with azaleas, magnolias pansies and cyclamen that never go dormant.
The misters are simulating the cold dampness of winter in the south, but it’s still 40+ degrees warmer than outside in the Midwest. The buds on the magnolia trees were already swelling, so maybe an early spring is on hand.
The giant misters on the glass roof looked ominous. Is this what they mean by greenhouse gases?
Thought for the Day: To shorten winter, borrow some money due in spring. W. J. Vogel (anybody know this man?)
