Another iconic tree of East Africa is the Baobab Tree, which can live more than 1,000 years. Its trunk can reach over 30′ in diameter, which gives it a stubby appearance, but can reach heights of 80-100′.
The tree has many uses. Besides its fruit, used by both man and animals, its trunk holds up to 100 gallons of water, the bark fiber is used for rope and baskets, and the trunk’s size makes good canoes.
In tribal folklore it is called the “upside down tree” because of its root-like branches.
