What a lovely day! I’m sitting here on the beach all by myself, old and weathered but still strong, willing and able to serve anyone who needs help. I’ve been here for years, seen everything.
At times it is so crowded that I can’t make room for everyone. Other times it is lonely; I don’t see anyone for days, and have no one to talk to but the sea gulls. I love the young families with kids playing in the sand, and the romantic couples who ponder their future together, it makes me very happy. I’ve also sat here and watched drug deals, even taken in a wino or two that need a place to sleep on warm summer nights. Sometimes, I wonder what it would be like to travel, see other parts of the world, and leave this place behind. But, it’s comforting to know I’m anchored here. I know what to expect, and can deal with the highs and the lows, like the tides, human nature, and fate.
Ah, such a beautiful day at the beach on Cape Cod, near Hyannis.
