Comstock Lodge

Custer County is the 2nd largest county in Nebraska, located in the geographical center of the state. One hundred miles north of Grand Island, NE lies Sargent, NE (pop. 509) in the northeast corner of Custer Co.

About 3 miles NE of Sargent is the Comstock Lodge, where we spent two nights. Formerly a private hunting lodge, it is now a beautiful B&B that provides hunting packages as well–3,500 fenced acres of bison, elk, wild sheep and plenty of hunting birds. As one of the darkest night spots in the state, I was hunting the Milky Way, but the western wild fires made star gazing impossible.

I strongly recommend this place, a beautiful setting in the Bohemian Alps.

Thought for the Day: Those who want to reap the benefits of this great nation must bear the fatigue of supporting it.
Thomas Paine
