Cross Country
Fall is the season for Cross Country. For first-timers, it is tough getting in shape. After a leisurely summer, the sudden demands on your body to prepare for long distance running (2 miles) is like a fire alarm going off in your bedroom at 2 AM.
In training for only three weeks, these 7th and 8th graders are already competing in their third meet. The disparity in growth spirts and muscle development at this age is apparent in this photo; my grandson (far left) looks mismatched against the others.
I admire his grit and determination.
Thought for the Day: I love running cross country. On a track, I feel like a hamster.
