Walled City

The Christmas season is upon us, time to retell the Christ-mas story. You know, the story all Christians believe, the one about the three wise men that followed the bright star over Bethlehem, bearing gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh for the new King, Jesus, the Christ child.

Today, the sleepy little town of Bethlehem is a walled city, separating the Israelis and Palestinians. Bethlehem lies in the West Bank, part of Palestine, but the wall was built by the Israelis to protect themselves from Palestinians. (Hmmm, how did they get the building permit for the wall?)

In order to visit the historical biblical site where Jesus was born in a manger, you must pass through the wall guarded by Israelis troops and enter Palestine. Oddly enough, neither Israelis or Palestinians are Christians, but both recognize the value of Christian tourism.

Thought for the Day: We build too many walls and not enough bridges.
Sir Isaac Newton
