Old Smiley Road

A ten-mile stretch of scenic road, Old Smiley Road, winds through the western part of Fort Robinson State Park in the NW corner of Nebraska. It is a narrow asphalt road, thankfully one-way, desparately in need of some TLC.

What used to be part of US 20 is now a seldom used scenic drive. I drove it twice and never saw another car. It starts in the flatlands (this shot) and climbs into the bluffs with scenic vistas all around.

Early morning or very late afternoon is best.

Thought for the Day: Roads were made for journeys, not destinations. Confucius
