Sowbelly Canyon

The scenic drive through Sowbelly Canyon is a narrow, winding, decent county gravel road … when it’s dry. The last time I tried this road was mid-May, 2014 when I almost got stuck in the first 50 yards off the asphalt highway. The spring rains make this gumbo impassable.

No problem in August. No traffic, a few fences but no livestock, no houses, no barns, no sheds and no noise. The only sign of civilization was the rusted out chassis of a two-wheel trailer. Looked like it hadn’t moved in 50 years!

I was alone.

Thought for the Day: We are just a speck, on a speck, orbiting a speck, in the corner of a speck, in the middle of nowhere.
