My camera club has a monthly photo contest and one of the categories is “Creative”, where no limits are imposed on digital manipulation. As the club rules state, “…for those who dare to explore the experimental and creative forms of photographic expression … anything goes …creative art … no rules to follow.”
I submitted the photo above as a joke to see what kind of reaction it would get. I had seen a poster like this, and thought the title was clever; in fact, I laughed out loud the first time I saw it. Not much digital manipulation was required, I just cloned out the people that were on the beach. In my twisted mind, the title is creative, but how broad-minded would the judges be?
The entries were “revealed” at a recent meeting, and this photo got a few half-hearted chuckles, but I was disappointed that people didn’t see it as a joke. A few even asked, “Where are the submarines?” Seriously? C’mon, people, it’s a JOKE! Get it? Oh well, I guess there are a few humorless Fuddy Duddies in every crowd.
Thought for the Day: Even the gods love jokes. Plato
